Revving Up the Hooligan Chronicles: Cold Lake MX Race Weekend Recap!
What a sick weekend it was, my fellow Hooligans! The battleground at Cold Lake MX was set ablaze with rubber-burning action and heart-pounding thrills. The Hooligans and the AOTMX crew came in hot, ready to send it to the moon and back. So grab a cold one, buckle up, and let's dive into the glorious mayhem that went down.
Saturday kicked off with clear skies, jaw-dropping scenery, and a track that screamed, "Bring on the chaos!" The practices began, and the races were about to go off like bottle rockets. But hold your horses, because before we dive into the madness, let's address the gnarliest crash of the day. Tristan Auriat, one of our AOTMX members, went down hard, leaving us all holding our breath. The medics sprang into action like MX superheroes, but damn, the dude had a broken femur, a broken nose, and a concussion to top it all off. He got airlifted to Edmonton for surgery and came out like a true champ. Talk about a hard-hitting reminder that this sport ain't for the faint of heart.
With adrenaline pumping and anxiety on the rise, the races kicked into gear. The Hooligans tore up the track, battling it out with their brethren and the rest of the AOTMX crew. The Cold Lake MX track was dialed in to perfection, except for one little mishap. Some sneaky sprinkler had been left on overnight, turning two sections into slip 'n slide madness. Poor Paxton K ate dirt and did a damn cartwheel in one of those treacherous zones. The flaggers had no choice but to call in the medics, but hey, once they checked him over, Paxton K hopped back on his bike and finished the race. That's the spirit, baby! Resilience and determination personified. We salute you, Paxton!
During the intermission, the Cold Lake MX track crew busted their asses to fix those flooded out sections, giving us riders the grip and safety we crave. Let's give a shoutout to those hard-working mofos, because without them, we'd be slipping and sliding like Bambi on ice. Mad props, my dudes!
And let's not forget about the shenanigans that went down off the track. The afterparties were off the chain, with beers flowing, doobies sparking, and campfires blazing. We partied like there was no tomorrow, swapping stories of epic battles and insane wipeouts. Some of us kept the party rolling until the crack of dawn, while others hit the hay early to rest up for Sunday's showdown. That's what being a Hooligan is all about, baby—living life on the edge, chasing adrenaline, and never backing down from a good time.
Sunday morning rolled in with the sun shining, the skies grinning, and our pipes itching for that sweet braap symphony. The track conditions? Oh, they were mint, my friends. The Cold Lake MX track crew and the AOTMX volunteers (you know who you are, you badass angels) went above and beyond, grooming that dirt like it was their ticket to motocross nirvana. And guess what? They freaking nailed it! Picture tacky soil, berms so perfectly carved you could sculpt a masterpiece on them—this was the motocross paradise we had dreamed of.
As the races kicked off, the Hooligans brought the heat like never before. Every single one of our rowdy riders showed up with balls of steel, ripping it up and leaving their opponents eating their dirt sandwiches.
In the 65 class, Zade was holding down first place like it was his birthright—until he decided to pull off a sick crash, casing a double like a daredevil. The medics rushed in, and it was clear Zade was hurting bad. They gave him the once-over, but unfortunately, he couldn't finish the race. But guess what, my Hooligan brethren? This kid had the heart of a lion, and he lined up at the gate for moto 2, ready to send it once again. However, the AOTMX Club, representing the medics, had to play the safety card and pulled him from the gate. Yeah, it was a bummer, but we respect the rules. Safety first, my friends. Zade, you're a warrior, and we know you'll be back stronger than ever.
Let's talk about the weather, shall we? Both days were scorching hot, making us guzzle liquids like we were desert wanderers. A little cloud cover on Sunday gave us temporary relief, but let's be real—it only lasted as long as a sneeze. We were back in the sweltering heat, sweating like pigs in a sauna. Ah, the joys of motocross!
Now, we gotta address some flagging business. If you sign up to be a flagger (and you pretty much have to...for now), don't be a dumbass and forget your duties. Rick, Graham, Jesse—we're looking at you. But hey, you owned your mistakes, and we respect that. Shoutout to the flaggers who held it down like champions and ensured the races went off without a hitch. You rock, my flag-waving heroes!
Let's wrap this bad boy up by showing some major love to both the AOTMX crew and Cold Lake MX. This race weekend was pure motocross nirvana, and it wouldn't have been possible without the blood, sweat, and tears of the AOTMX club members and the track crew. They pulled off an absolute banger of an event, even with the short notice and quick turnaround. The Hooligans will be back, no doubt about it, and we're hoping AOTMX will join us for more wild rides on the schedule. This track is a hidden gem, my friends, and it's worth every mile of that road trip.
Now, it's time to give a thunderous round of applause to our Hooligan crew. You guys tore up the track, pushed the limits, and showed the world what it means to be a fearless motocross warrior. But it doesn't stop there. You also showed unparalleled camaraderie, supporting each other like family, washing bikes, and even playing umbrella duty to shield your brothers from the scorching sun. That's the Hooligan way, my friends—unstoppable on and off the track.
In club news, Andre, the former Club President, has officially stepped down due to workload and personal commitments. The Hooligans extend a massive thanks to Andre and his family for their tireless efforts in kicking off the 2023 season. Now, the call for leadership echoes through the AOTMX club. We urge the board members to rise to the challenge, collaborate with the club members, and steer AOTMX to greater heights. The Hooligans are ready to step up if needed, armed with our diverse range of professional skills and unwavering determination and commitment to the future of motocross in Alberta. We don't want to force the issue, but as dedicated racers and proud members of the AOTMX club, we strive to make it the premier MX club in Alberta. We stand ready to help, to work with you, and to ensure that the legacy of the AOTMX club continues to thrive. This is us reaching out to the Board, the rest is up to you.
Stay tuned for more jaw-dropping adventures, wild races, and tales of madness from the Holeshot Hooligans. We're revving up for domination, one braap at a time!
