Holeshot Hooligans FAQ

About the Hooligans

  1. Who are the Holeshot Hooligans?
We’re a tight-knit crew of Alberta motocross riders who live for ripping dirt, racing hard, and keeping the sport fun. We support new riders, families, and anyone crazy enough to throw a leg over a bike.

  2. Can anyone join the Hooligans?
Sort of. You don’t sign up—you earn it. Show up, ride, race, help out, and don’t be a jackass. If you fit in, you’ll know.

  3. Is this a club, team, or just a group of degenerates?
    Yes.

  4. Where are you based?
All over Alberta, but you’ll usually find us at tracks in Edmonton, Calgary, and anywhere else with good dirt and great times.

Alberta Motocross & Racing

  1. Where can I find motocross tracks in Alberta?
We’ve got a full directory of Alberta’s motocross tracks [here] so you can find the best spots to ride, race, and break stuff.

  2. What race series are in Alberta?
Alberta has ADRA/ACM, AVMX, CAMS, Wildrose MX Series, and a few others. Check out our races directory to see which ones fit your skill level and schedule.

  3. Can beginners race motocross in Alberta?
Absolutely. Every series has beginner classes, and the Alberta Vet MX (AVMX) even has classes for kids and older riders. If you can ride without hitting the medic tent (too often), you’re good to go.

  4. What’s the best track for practice?
Depends on what you want. If you want novice to pro tracks in one location, Wildrose MX is great. If you want wide-open fun, Stettler or Cold Lake are solid. Check out Our Favs page for the best practice and post-ride hangout spots.

Motocross Gear & Bikes

  1. What bike should I get for motocross?
If you’re new, get a 450. Best option is to see Ryan at Riverside Motosports

  2. Where should I buy bikes, gear, and parts?
We recommend Riverside Motorsports—they’ve been supporting local riders and stocking everything you need to get back on the track. Not in Edmonton, head here for a full list.

  3. What gear do I need to start racing?
At minimum: a DOT-approved helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, jersey, and pants. A chest protector and knee braces are highly recommended unless you enjoy ER visits.

  4. Do I need a special license to race motocross?
Nope, just a race membership with whatever club you’re riding with (ADRA, AVMX, etc.). No motorcycle license needed—just guts.

Website & Membership

  1. What’s on the Holeshot Hooligans website?
A full resource for Alberta motocross, including track directories, race schedules, trainers, and our partners. Oh, and some wild stories.

  2. Can I advertise my motocross business here?
Yes! We offer partnership tiers for businesses that support the sport. If you’re a shop, trainer, or race series, reach out and let’s talk.

  3. How do I get featured on your site?
Be part of the Alberta moto scene—whether as a racer, sponsor, or a shop helping riders. Or, do something legendary.

Fun & Random Hooligan Stuff

  1. Who is the fastest Hooligan?
On paper? Probably one of the young guys. In reality? Whoever gets to the first turn in the lead and doesn’t crash.

  2. What’s the worst crash in Hooligan history?
Probably Rick’s hospital escape incident after a massive wreck at Popkum. Colin thought he was dead, but he snuck out of the hospital, and caught a $150 cab ride back to the track.

  3. How do you guys fund all this racing?
We ask ourselves the same question. Some work normal jobs, some have understanding spouses, and some just choose moto over retirement savings.

  4. Do you guys actually train, or just send it?
A little of both. Some of us work with legit coaches (shoutout Seven1 Racing) while others believe in “whiskey throttle and hope.”

  5. What’s the best way to get better at motocross?
Ride often, train smart, and maybe don’t follow the guy who always crashes first.
